"So what are we looking for today?" Bastille asked, looking from her father to Vurdem, bouncing along to keep up with the older Felvargs.
"To be honest, we are not sure. We are just looking to see what we find, tracking fresh scents in hopes of a good catch." Vurdem replied. Locarian nodded in agreement. They periodically stopped to sniff the air in search of prey. Bastille tried to copy them, though she was not entirely sure what was fresh and what was stale, she was still trying to just distinguish the scents in her head first. She tried following one of the trails and didn't even notice the adults following her as she weaved through the trees, wondering if she was on to something or not. Vurdem chuckled and Locarian grinned as they followed in amusement, letting the pup attempt to track. The trail she picked led her to a small dirt tunnel among the roots of a tree. She peaked in, sticking her head in as far as it would go without getting stuck in the earthy space.
"What have you found?" Locarian asked, leaning down to whisper to his daughter as to not spook her prey existent or not. Bastille tried to scan the space for life but saw nothing. She pulled her head out and looked up at her father.
"I think it might have been a stale scent." She replied, disappointed.
"That's alright, it happens." Vurdem chimed in, trying to cheer up the pup. Bastille leaned in and tried to take another look into the tunnel. She glanced at her father from the corner of her eyes until she stuck her head back in the tunnel to be met with a masked bandit. They both froze and stared at each other for a moment. Bastille was unsure how to react until it reached out and grabbed her cheek fur with its tiny little hands. She squealed and yanked her head out of the hole, dragging the raccoon out with her who seemed stunned by the sudden action. Locarian and Vurdem leaped back as she swung around and the raccoon rolled across the forest floor and then sat up, shaking itself off. The Felvargs stared at the raccoon. The raccoon stared back. Only the wind seemed to get between the silence of the situation.
"A raccoon!" Vurdem yelled and pounced, trying to catch the crafty critter but it took off into the bushes. Vurdem took off after it, crashing through the bushes after the masked bandit who was trying to make their exit.
"Let's go Little Bee!" Locarian yelled behind him as he took off after Vurdem and the racccon. Bastille wasted no time running after them, getting over her shock of coming face to face with the strange critter. She had thought she found nothing, but turns out she instead found a raccoon. She did not have any time to be proud of her achievement though as she raced through the forest, listening to the sound of the more experienced hunters racing after their target.
"Where'd it go?" She could hear her father as she got closer. Locarian paused next to Vurdem as the two looked around.
"I don't know, this whole place smells like raccon." Vurdem replied, wrinkling his nose at the strong scent. Bastille found the scent almost scarily strong as she caught up to them, though she did not have time to enter the clearing as raccoons appeared out of nowhere. Ten, no thirty, maybe even fifty of them from her perspective. They dive-bombed from trees, leaped from bushes, and clung to the fur of the two Felvargs. Bastille froze in shock.
"Ah! Get it off!" Vurdem yelled. One raccoon was yanking at his ears while another plastered itself to his face as he ran blindly around trying to shake the critters. A few more clung to his tail and legs, furiously clawing at him.
"Darn raccoons!" Locarian yelled, trying to snap at one that was going for a rodeo ride on his back. After Bastille got over her shock she started to laugh hysterically, not even noticing the raccoon next to her that would doing the same. They rolled around on the ground, watching the two males furiously running, kicking, snapping, and even rolling to get rid of the raccoons.
"Go daddy go!" Bastille chanted. The raccoon next to her leaned against her as it tried to stop laughing, though Bastille did not mind as the sight was indeed funny.
"Hey! What about..." Vurdem was cut off as he crashed into a tree. He splayed out on the ground, the raccoons leaping off of his back and laughing while pointing at him. Admiring their handy-work. Vurdem looked quite stunned and dizzy, though as soon as he recovered he spun around and snapped. One unlucky raccoon did not manage to escape as his laughing proved too much and he was caught in the powerful jaws.
"If you're done over there PLEASE HELP!" Locarian growled and tried to snap at a raccoon hanging from his leg and almost roared in anger as another grabbed his upper lip and pulled up to reveal his teeth. Locarian was shaking his heal like a mad man, the raccoon holding on for dear life. Vurdem joined the struggle and went after the raccoons on the brute's back. Bastille stopped laughing and trotted into the clearing as the last raccoons scattered except for an unlucky few. She nodded to the raccoon that had been laughing alongside her as it waved and vanished into the bushes.
"I officially hate raccoons." Locarian mumbled, breathing heavily and looking quite grumpy about being bested by raccoons.
"I see you got quite the show." Vurdem commented as Bastille approached them.
"It was pretty funny..." She smiled innocently at them as she tried to hold back any more laughing from escaping.
"They ganged up on us, like what in the world?" Vurdem looked around as if waiting to be jumped again.
"It seemed to be an ambush." Locarian replied.
"Isn't that to be expected of bandits?" Bastille asked, chuckling.
"Haha, indeed." Vurdem chuckled, though it was forced and he rolled his eyes. "Well, at least we aren't going home empty-pawed." They looked at their little haul.
"Alright, lets head out before the remaining raccoons return, maybe with back-up." Locarian shivered at the thought and they took they haul, racing away from the scene before the bandits could strike again.
Third and final tracking story for Luna-puppy and CharmysARPG!
This one kind of took off on me, it had a mind of its own... Thought something where Bastille got to laugh at her father and Vurdem would be a good way to finish off! Though I will admit I will miss writing about this trio a little XD
